WELCOME!

I'm Nice Cream, but you can call me just nice if you want to! And this is my submission to the Fireside Gamejam 2025.
In this game, you're a yokai hunter that gets energy from gathering fireflies! So make sure to grabas many as you can. The game currently has 2 bosses, so let's see if you can make it to the both of them!

CONTROLS

Movement: You can skate around using WASD. To quickly change directions, pressing RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON will allow you to dash towards the cursor.

Shooting: If you press the LEFT MOUSE BUTTON, you're gonna shoot a small projectile, there's no cooldown on shooting! However, shooting costs a small ammount of energy, so be wary of that when shooting quickly. Your bullets also leave a small trail of fireflies, which can be useful if you're far away from the next cluster of fireflies.

Super Dash: Shooting down enemeis isn't enough, you must give'em a final attack! When you shoot at a spirit until their health reaches 0, they'll become vulnerable and unable to do anything. In this state, the player has to do a super dash to finish them off! To do a super dash, the player just needs to hold RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON until it charges, and then release!

CREDITS

The entire idea, coding, art, music, designs etc was made by myself as per ususal. But also as per usual, around half the sounds used come from Pixabay, while the rest are made by myself. (Except for like 2 or 3 sounds that come from other medias)

That is about all I have to say, making this project was loads of fun and I can't wait for the next jam next year! Until then,

I am deeply sorry in advance, but I will now dissect your game to little pieces, tear it apart, and melt it in the microwave. I absolutely loved it, but there were so many little details that undermined the experience.

The theming of this game, along with the art and the music, is SOOOO good, but the gameplay was way too clunky. It could have been so good with a few adjustments, but right now there are many things I don't understand and that feel a bit weird.

First of all, the dash just didn't work? I saw it did something; when I pressed right clicked I got launched in a direction that wasn't really the direction of the cursor (if the cursor was northeast from the player I would be launched upwards) something like 0.5 seconds after having pressed right-click, and a little dashing animation played. I didn't like this, I wish I could just be launched right away, exactly in the direction of the cursor.

Also, for some reason, sometimes I wouldn't be able to change directions as usual? Normally, the steering is just fine, and it would be perfectly balanced if the dash worked correctly. But sometimes I just wouldn't steer at all??? Is it because I recently got stunned? It wasn't fun, or maybe it would be okay if it wasn't as long and that there was a visual indicator of this.

By the way, I think you can sort of cheese the game by continuing to charge the super-dash without ever releasing it. When you're charging it you don't lose energy from cold, and there's no limit to how long you can hold it.

Small nitpick: the first boss didn't have a flashing outline when it was stunned, so I spent really long trying to figure out what to do, because I thought I had tried dashing into it (I probably just missed the first time I tried).

I died to the second boss because I had picked up the "Push" upgrade, which pushes away the hands when you're dashing.... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

But please don't go cry in a corner, I swear I actually enjoyed your game (even though I had so many negative remarks). Just the concept of the game itself is incredible, the player character was so cool, the intro was the best I've seen in the jam, the little trail of fireflies left behind by the projectiles was really neat (it made me survive in situations where I would have been frustrated to die if I hadn't found any fireflies), the fact that shooting enemies gives you energy is such a good idea (it makes a good attack-survive / risk-reward balance, accentuated by the lack of cooldown on the shooting ability, which was really cool), and there are so many other things I liked about it. It was a nice (cream?) game. So much potential but so many small issues.

Thank you for all the feedback! The game is indeed not perfect, but there's not much you can do in 10 days hehe. It is a shame that my files got corrupted and I lost all the code of this game, but I'll definitely try to remake it in the future!

I love the vibes, but man that beeping sound when you're low hurts 😅. It is really fun though and you've done an amazing job as always. You're probably going to win again lol

well, I wanted to make the critical low sound horrible so you panic while trying to recover energy. I think I did a good job hehe

Very cool! I enjoyed playing this, it's a really unique idea, I love the art-style and music. My highest score was 997. Keep up the great work!
